TORONTO, February 1, 2021 –  From November 12 to December 31, 2020, Metro customers answered the call to help their local communities by donating a toonie at checkout to support Metro’s Community Spirit Like No Other campaign. The campaign was created with the hopes of helping those who have been impacted by the pandemic by supporting local foodbanks. Metro Ontario committed to match customer donations up to $250,000.

“Metro has long been committed to communities where we live and work, so it was especially important that the money raised in store stayed within the same community – donations went directly to the local foodbank,” says Joe Fusco, Senior Vice President, Metro. “A sincere thank-you to our customers for their generosity and to all of our employees for their ongoing dedication and support during this pandemic.”

The Community Spirit Like No Other campaign surpassed all expectations raising a total of $1.43 million for 146 local foodbanks across Ontario. The money raised will go a long way to help those who are struggling with food insecurity. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated.

This brings METRO’s donation in Ontario for COVID-19 relief to $3.43 million.
