Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that you can count on for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices.”

“The pandemic has been tough for many people and their families, which is why we are pleased to be able to create 75 jobs for the community and provide locals with quality and affordable products,” said Umar Ali, Store Manager, Food Basics. “I’m looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming everyone to our new and modern, second-floor store.”

Residents can start shopping at the Food Basics at Emerald Park on October 1 with store hours on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To showcase its appreciation and commitment to the community, Food Basics Emerald Park will donate $5,000 to the Anne Marie D'Amico Foundation. Anne Marie tragically lost her life on April 23, 2018 as a result of a terrorist attack known as the “Toronto Van Attack” that killed 10 people and seriously injured 16 people. The Foundation focuses on supporting humanitarian causes that embody Anne Marie’s spirit to effect positive change and end violence against women.

“We are incredibly moved by Food Basics Emerald Park’s donation – we are beyond grateful to have their support,” said Nick D’Amico, President, Anne Marie D’Amico Foundation. “We are in our third year in our efforts to raise $1 million to support the North York Women’s Shelter and their new Community Collective hub, which offers women and children in need a safe space and access to vital services. Food Basic’s generous contribution helps us get one step closer to our vision in helping to end gender-based violence.”

Food Basics is taking all the necessary steps to keep staff, customers and the entire community safe and healthy. The store will be sanitized regularly according to the strictest hygiene standards, including increased frequency of equipment cleaning, especially in high-traffic areas.
Since 1995, Food Basics has been helping customers save money on their grocery needs by providing Always More for Less. Food Basics operates on three guiding principles: Always Fresh, Always in Stock and Always at Great Prices.
