Metro's Online Grocery Service continues its deployment: now available to Sherbrooke consumers

Montreal, August 26, 2020 – Metro's online grocery service is now available at Metro Plus Plouffe in Sherbrooke, QC, and surrounding areas. Serving more than 73,000 households, this deployment allows more than 160,000 consumers to take advantage of the service with the promise of guaranteed freshness. With a ninth store offering online grocery shopping, this is a breakthrough in the Eastern Townships, after deployments in the Greater Montreal area and in the Quebec City and Outaouais regions. Metro's online grocery service, launched in 2016, now reaches more than 61 per cent of the Quebec population.

“Today, the popularity of eCommerce is at a level we had expected to reach in the next two or three years. Over the past few months, we have been working very hard to meet unprecedented demand, and the addition of a store in Sherbrooke is part of our growth plan," commented Christina Bédard, Vice President, eCommerce and Digital Strategy at METRO. "Customers in the region will certainly appreciate this service, which the Plouffe Group will offer with the same high standards of quality for which they are renowned in the region.”

METRO recently announced that it will accelerate its plan to increase the capacity of its online grocery service. In addition to this ninth store in Quebec, a third store will offer the service in the Toronto area this fall. The company will also evolve its hub store model to offer in-store pick-up service (click & collect) in some 30 Metro stores in Quebec and Ontario in 2021.

Metro's online grocery service stands out with its ‘Fast and Fresh’ promise: to ensure freshness, customer orders are transported in the delivery truck, which is equipped with the exclusive Tri-Zones® (temperate, refrigerated and frozen zone) process. This means the freshness of the food is preserved and guaranteed, from the shelf to the home. In-store employees are trained to select the freshest foods for customers as they would choose if they were shopping for themselves. The selected products are then stored in store according to the Tri-Zones® principle while the order awaits pick up.

The delivery and pick-up service, offered from Metro Plus Plouffe Bourque, is supported by Metro.ca and allows metro&moi members to benefit from all aspects of the program. For more information, visit https://www.metro.ca/en/online-grocery/how-it-works.

Online grocery shopping is part of the company's overall digital strategy, which aims to position METRO as a retailer offering the best food experience tailored to meet our customers’ needs and behaviors.
