Montreal, October 31, 2019 - Jean Fournier, owner of Metro Plus Fournier, proudly opened his new store following an eight-month construction period. Recently moved a stone’s throw from its previous location, still at 850 Thibeau Blvd., it covers 48,000 ft2, now 5,000 ft2 larger than it was before.
The new Metro Plus was designed to provide customers with an optimal shopping experience and give products the importance they deserve. Thanks to an investment totalling $14 million, the new grocery store showcases all the freshness, product diversity and service quality that have been the cornerstone of Metro outlets’ renown for over 70 years. In addition to new equipment and a trendy decor, this move also brought hundreds of new products, created nearly 20 new jobs and consolidated the 145 existing positions.
Several members of Metro’s management team attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the evening of October 30 alongside regional officials, including Trois-Rivières Mayor Jean Lamarche and MNA Jean Boulet.
Fresher and more complete
Freshness, one of Metro’s top priorities, is omnipresent inside the store. The impressive produce department features local and seasonal products, as well as fresh-cut fruit. In the meat and fish departments, teams of experts prepare cuts on demand, suggest products and give tips to help customers prepare and cook their dishes to perfection. These departments also feature new service counters with a vast selection of fresh, delicious meats, fish and seafood. In addition, a wide range of ready-to-eat meals prepared by on-site chefs using fresh products are available every day in the “Fresh to Go” aisle. The Metro Plus store also includes a new Aki Thai counter featuring delicious sushi platters and Thai dishes prepared on-site.
Besides providing excellent service across all departments, the new location also brings a wide variety of products from Québec’s premier artisan bakery, Première Moisson, along with a range of delicious bulk items and an impressive selection of gluten-free, organic and ethnic products. Lastly, shoppers will discover new features in every aisle, such as a wider range of large, economy-size items.
The new Metro Plus Fournier’s design is based on the company’s latest construction standards, thereby reducing energy consumption by 25% compared to 2010’s standards. These new standards include full LED lighting and CO2 refrigeration systems. Founded in 1965 and operating under the Metro banner since 1977, this grocery store has been an integral part of the Cap-de-la-Madeleine’s commercial landscape since its grand opening. In addition to providing financial support to several local activities and organizations, the store has also taken part in Metro’s Green Apple School Program every year since 2012. As part of this initiative, the Metro Plus location has awarded a total of $29,000, divided into 29 grants of $1,000 each, to the community’s elementary and secondary schools over the past seven years, thereby enabling hundreds of students to participate in projects aiming to increase fruit and vegetable consumption.
Mr. Jean Fournier and his 165 employees are very proud of their new location and look forward to welcoming local and regional shoppers.
