June 27, 2012 - Metro scores a hat trick at the 19th Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards

Irresistibles Ice Cream, Frozen French Fries and Dog Treats impress the jury

Montreal, June 27, 2012 – Metro, the Quebec food industry leader, distinguished itself once again at the Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards, presented by the Retail Council of Canada (RCC), which rewards innovation and excellence in the Canadian food industry. Of the seven awards handed out in the ‘Private Label’ category, three were won by Irresistibles products: Ice Cream Limited Edition (Confectionery, Snack & Dessert), Frozen French Fries (Prepared Food and Entrees) and Dog Treats (Non-Food).

Ice Cream, Limited Edition
During the 2011 Holiday season, Metro launched a series of Limited Edition products for the whole family. They included Irresistibles Panettone and Red Velvet ice cream made from 100% Canadian dairy certified products. Pieces of the famous Panettone and Red Velvet cakes are blended into these delicious ice creams.

Frozen French Fries
Made from a selection of the very best potatoes, the new Irresistibles Frozen French Fries come in three varieties: Sweet Potato , Crispy Coating and Spicy Coated. The last two are Aliments du Québec certified. Oven baked or deep fried, they are tender and crispy and particularly delicious with garlic mayonnaise (aioli).

Dog Treats
100% natural, high in protein, low in fat with no added salt, Irresistibles Dog Treats are available in two varieties: Chicken Tenders and Sweet Potato and Duck Twists. Each portion is perfect for all sizes and breeds of dogs based on the recommendations provided right on the bag.

The Grand Prix winners were selected by a 32-member jury consisting of consumers, journalists and members of the grocery industry. The jury was chaired by Luc Boissy, Director of Product Development for restaurant chain Bâton Rouge. In February, the jury met in Montreal to evaluate national brand and private label food products. Judges assessed the non-food products in their homes over a six-week period.

The jury narrowed down the entries to 122 finalists, after grading each of them on five criteria: uniqueness and innovation, product characteristics, presentation and packaging, overall consumer value and consumer acceptance (household penetration rate of a product).

Winners of the 19th edition of the Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards were announced on June 14 in Toronto. These rewards are a confirmation of Metro’s desire to offer private label products that combine authenticity and quality. Last year, Metro won two awards: one for its Irresistibles Life Smart nutrient enriched water and the other for its new line of Selection marinades.
