New recognition bonuses for frontline METRO employees

METRO will once again offer recognition bonuses to all full- and part-time store and distribution centres employees in Ontario and in Québec. This is the fourth such bonus METRO has offered employees since the beginning of the pandemic. In the context of the current Omicron wave, our clients have relied on us to meet their needs and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months.

Similar bonuses were offered in December 2020 as well as in February and May 2021.

The bonus will be paid in February as gift cards valid at any METRO banner and our frontline store and distribution centres employees are eligible as follows:

Employees working full time will receive a $300 gift card.
Employees who work an average of 15 hours per week or more will receive a $150 gift card.
Those who work an average of fewer than 15 hours per week will receive a $75 gift card.

In addition to the recognition bonus, we are encouraging all our employees to get vaccinated as soon as possible. We are offering two hours of paid leave at the regular rate of pay for each dose of vaccine if an employee’s appointment is scheduled during working hours.

As we have done throughout the pandemic, METRO actively monitors the situation and has implemented proactive measures to protect the safety and health of our employees, while ensuring that they receive the support they need.
