Metro joins North York’s Willowdale neighbourhood with new store

Toronto, September 5, 2019 - Metro Bathurst & Steeles will open its doors to its newest location on Thursday, September 5 at 6201 Bathurst Street, North York, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This location represents a major investment by Metro in the Willowdale neighbourhood and features products and services tailored to the needs of the community.

Featuring cut fruit prepared on-site daily, a wide selection of Fresh2Go ready-made meals for convenient lunches and dinners, more than 100 varieties of imported and domestic cheeses, bread baked in store daily, and expanded ethnic and Kosher sections, the new store’s product offering will be a welcomed addition to the community.

“We are excited to be joining Willowdale with our newest Metro location, bringing more than 120 jobs to the neighbourhood. It is important to us that our store integrates with the community, so we’ve tailored our product offering and store décor to the neighbourhood,” says Joe Fusco, Senior Vice President, Metro.

The store has officially been named Metro Bathurst & Steeles to pay tribute to the surrounding community. The décor also pays homage to the area featuring photos of local landmarks including the Bathurst Clark Resource Library, the John Arnold House, and the Thornhill Village Library.

To emphasize its commitment to playing an active role in the communities in which it operates, Metro will present a $1,000 cheque to Chasdei Khaduri Jewish Food Bank, to help increase food access and reduce food insecurity in North York.

As part of the grand opening activities, Metro will be hosting live demonstrations in partnership with local influencers on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Saturday, September 7, Betty Binon from @stemsandforks will host a floral demonstration showing customers tips and tricks of the trade including how to design and assemble a floral arrangement and how to care for potted plants like orchids. On Sunday, September 8, Michelle Sterescu from @the.yummy.yenta will host a demonstration of a Kosher-friendly brunch recipe for Bagel and Lox Nachos. Visit Metro Bathurst & Steeles during grand opening weekend for these activities.
