Food Basics Offers Pickering Customers More for Less

Pickering, ON, February 28, 2019 - Food Basics opened its doors to a brand-new location as of 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 28 in Pickering, ON at 1105 Kingston Road. A grand opening celebration was held that morning, featuring light refreshments and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Deputy Mayor Kevin Ashe.

“I want Pickering residents to know that Food Basics is much more than just your neighbourhood grocer,” says Jesse Grimes, Store Manager. “We are an employment hub, bringing over 80 new jobs to the community, and a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices, so Pickering customers don’t have to compromise.”

With over 18,000 sq. ft. of modern retail space, Food Basics’ latest store features organic produce; OLG Lottery; Western Union; and propane. The grocer also offers customers a wide array of its high-quality, budget-friendly Irresistibles and Selection store brand products.

“We understand the importance of community and how integral the local grocery store is in the lives of Pickering residents. At Food Basics, it’s important for us to play an active role within the community.” says John Manax, Vice President of Operations, Food Basics. “Currently we are working with the Pickering Panthers and the Pickering Soccer Club on some great events and come spring, we will be sponsoring a house league soccer team.”

To emphasize its commitment to playing an active role in the communities in which it operates, Food Basics presented a cheque at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to the St Paul's on-the-Hill Community Food Bank, to help fight food insecurity in the region.

Food Basics operates its network of 131 stores based on three guiding pillars: Always Fresh, Always in Stock and Always Great Prices.
