Montréal, December 15, 2016 - Metro is pleased to announce that following months of work with the Quebec government, local wines will finally make their way onto the shelves of the 204 Metro and Metro Plus supermarkets across the province within the next few days. As a result of Bill 88, which is now in effect, consumers will find wines produced in Quebec that they already enjoy, but also discover certain exclusive local products that will be available at Metro.
Customers will be able to choose wines from several vineyards, including Domaine de Lavoie, Domaine du Ridge, Coteau Rougemont, Domaine Côtes d’Ardoise, Vignoble Gagliano Vineyards and many others. They will be easy to pick out thanks to their very own special location and visual identification. Taste profiles will also be associated with these new products. Another new feature: wine varieties will also be indicated. This will provide an easier path for the consumer, who can then plan meals and coordinate them with Quebec wines in just one visit to the grocery store. The offering will differ from one region to the next, based on the offering of the various vineyards. Several products will also be added over time, as those products become available.
“Ever since the launch of our Local Purchasing Program in 2013, we have worked hard to maximize the accessibility and promotion of local products. We were therefore very eager to apply that principle to Quebec wines and help our customers discover new local products” said Marie-Claude Bacon, Senior Director, Corporate Affairs Department for Metro. “We have been preparing for this for quite some time and met many times with Quebec winemakers in order to offer our customers as many products as possible.”
