MONTREAL, June 18, 2015 - Customers of the Metro Plus St-Nicolas can now enjoy a completely reinvented supermarket! The store located on Route des Rivières in Lévis (formerly St-Nicolas) can now lay claim to being the first in the Quebec City and eastern region of the province to offer many new cutting-edge products and services, where no stone was left unturned to enrich the shopping experience.
After 8 months of work and an investment of close to 8 million dollars, the store belonging to franchisee Éric Gariépy was overhauled from top to bottom. This major expansion (almost 10,000 square feet) also provided an opportunity to reposition all of the departments and to improve product offerings. Furthermore, 35 new jobs were created in order to assist and better serve customers.
Bigger and better
The store now includes an outdoor terrace and a bistro area on the 2nd floor where shoppers enjoy the many choices of meals prepared on-site, including an Aki Thaï counter and a cutting station for hot sliced meats. The impressive produce department now includes a counter serving fresh juices, smoothies and fruit cut on-site. Meat and fish counters offer aged beef, products cooked on méchoui, as well as a large seafood fridge and a fish smokehouse. Finally, consumers can expect to see new items in all departments: an island of fine cheeses, a do-it-yourself bread slicer, a complete line of high-end grocery products including Godiva chocolate, a bulk section with candies and nuts and an entire floral department. Fans of home-made beer will also find a section featuring products from microbreweries such Archibald de Québec, Le Corsaire de Lévis and La Barberie de Québec.
Première Moisson
The revitalization of the Metro Plus St-Nicolas also brought with it the largest variety of products made by Première Moisson, the famous Quebec artisanal bakery, offered in grocery stores in the Quebec City region. Consumers will discover an impressive and unique offering of breads, Viennese and other pastries, not to mention many tasty specialties and fine gourmet products such as chocolates, jams, marinades, terrines, sauces, quiches and pâtés.
“The tastes and needs of Quebecers when it comes to food are evolving more and more. Here, our customers will be able to find everything they want and have access to fresh, distinctive, high quality products at good prices. We have gone all out to exceed our customers’ expectations” points out Éric Gariépy, franchisee of the Metro Plus St-Nicolas.
This project increases the investments made in the Quebec City region over the last 5 years to over $40 million. Metro, which has 35 stores in the area, provides jobs to over 5,200 people, while also helping to strengthen the community, including through the Green Apple School Program, which has awarded $358,000 to area schools over the last three years to encourage healthy eating habits among young people.
