March 13, 2014 - Metro adds new features to its metro.ca site and to its mobile app

Montreal, March 13, 2014 – Six months after launching its digital ecosystem and continuing to develop its web and mobile platforms, Metro today announces that it is adding new features to metro.ca and to the My Metro app.

“Ever since we launched our digital ecosystem in September of 2013, we have been attentive to comments from users in order to find ways to make their life even simpler. Today we are proposing two major innovations. First, as part of our My Healthy Plate with Metro program, the smiles identifying the good choices and the great choices for each product category will now be posted on the metro.ca site and on the mobile app when users prepare their grocery list, enabling them to see the selection of healthy products being offered to them. Secondly, a new feature in the My Metro mobile app will enable them to use their iPhonei to scan the bar codes of products that their pantry will soon be running short of, and to automatically add them to the grocery list”, said Gino Plevano, Senior Director, Digital strategy and platforms for Metro Inc.

The My Metro mobile app allows users to manage their purchases before, during and after their trip to the grocery store. It enables them to discover current promotions and personalized coupons from the metro&moi program, consult the flyer for discounts, find the nearest store, consult the weekly menu (based on the discounts found in the flyer), prepare a grocery list and redeem coupons at the checkout.

The digital ecosystem developed by Metro is enjoying tremendous success. As early as in October, only one month after the app was launched, the number of downloads exceeded the goal that had been set for the first three months. Since then, Metro has tripled those results. In fact, it was the most downloaded app in the Food and Beverage category in the App Storei in the weeks that followed its launch. Since that time, four versions of the app have been implemented, each one introducing new features, and are downloaded by over 70% of users.

The new Metro website is more user-friendly, more intuitive, richer, better integrated and, most of all, more personalized. Users can synchronize their grocery list with the My Metro app and in sharing their metro.ca account, all family members can have access to the list. Users who are also metro&moi members can use their iPhonei mobile digital device at the checkout as their metro&moi card and redeem their personalized coupons. The My Metro app is offered free of charge at the online App Storei store at AppStore.com/MyMetro.
