The incumbent is responsible for preparing, processing, registering  and documenting various legal transactions, including real estate leasing and transfers, under the supervision of a lawyer. Also responsible for maintaining various file systems and lists & providing information/documents to Company Depts/third parties as required. 
Specific Responsibilities        
Under supervision of a lawyer in the dept: Managing various real estate transaction files, including leases, assignments, renewals, amending agreements, in-store licenses.
Under supervision of a lawyer in the dept: Preparing and processing documentation for transactions, including leases/amendments/extensions, purchase/sale  of real property and other transactions. Preparing drafts. 
Under supervision of a lawyer in the dept: Preparing and processing lease-related documentation, including estoppel certificates and non-disturbance agreements.
Under supervision of a lawyer in the dept: Preparing and  arranging for E-registration of documents on title, subsearches, and other related documentation.
Opening, closing, and updating files, and filing them appropriately.
Conducting initial legal and business research, and due diligence as required for transactions.
Responsible for maintaining up to date  list of owned properties and leases to third parties.
Using tickler system, informing Real Estate Administration and Development depts regarding upcoming lease renewals/options.
Assisting dept lawyers in interpretation of legal documents.
Providing information and copies of file documentation to landlords and internal departments.
Other duties as assigned. 
Diploma of a law clerk program in Ontario (or equivalent skill set)    
2-3 years of experience in a similar role  
Experience in commercial leasing  
Proficient in MS Office; online business and legal research tools  
Proven proficiency in e- registry systems (Teranet) under supervision of a lawyer  
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (in French would be an asset)    
Excellent attention to detail  
Office; Stores; Distribution Centres; Various Depts in Montreal; Landlord representatives; Vendors;  Tenants and subtenants; E-registration personnel; outside lawyers/law clerks; Municipal and Government representatives (regarding taxes, licenses, regulatory compliance)
