24 Metro Stores in the GTA and Guelph Now Accepting Customer Containers
TORONTO: October 9, 2025 — Metro customers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Guelph can now bring their own reusable containers to package fresh products at select counters in 24 stores. This initiative supports Metro’s commitment to reducing single-use packaging and Guelph’s updated Single-Use Items By-law.
“We invite customers to join us in reducing single-use packaging—one container at a time! We’re offering customers a simple, safe way to reduce the use of single-use plastics while shopping,” said Joe Fusco, Senior Vice President, Metro. “This program reflects our ongoing efforts to optimize our packaging and printed materials by reducing their use and offer our customers an accessible and convenient way to fight single-use plastic.”
Customers can use their own clean, reusable non-glass container at the deli, ready-to-eat meals, meat, fish and seafood counters in participating Metro stores. This initiative supports Guelph’s updated Single-Use Items Bylaw, which mandates that businesses must accept reusable containers for food orders, whether consumed on-site or taken to go1.
Since the early 2010s, METRO has launched a range of initiatives to optimize our packaging and printed materials and reduce their environmental footprint. Learn more about METRO’s packaging and printed materials policy and our latest and our latest Corporate Responsibility Report.
