We are disappointed by our employees’ decision to reject METRO’s global offer of settlement, which would have ended the current dispute and enabled the renewal of the collective agreement.
The offer included significant increases particularly in the first 12 months, in addition to overtime and weekly premiums, as well as benefits (insurance, pension plan, paid sick days, etc.).
METRO has been clear from the outset of this dispute: we are determined to reach an agreement, but not at any cost. Any agreement must be grounded in reality to meet the needs of our customers and protect jobs over the long term.
METRO is a major employer in Québec, operating eight distribution centres and offering quality jobs offering with solid working conditions in a highly competitive environment that includes non-unionized American giants. It already provides competitive working conditions and long-term, high-quality employment opportunities here in Québec.
METRO will now assess all its options regarding next steps.
