METRO launches the seventh METRO Shared Kitchen in its network, in Ste Adèle

Ste-Adèle, May 20, 2026 — METRO, in collaboration with its long-standing partner Food Banks of Quebec, is proud to announce the opening of the seventh kitchen in the METRO’s Shared Kitchens network. Operated by Le Garde-Manger des Pays-d’en-Haut, this facility is the second in the Laurentians region, following the one in Boisbriand.

Located in a new building in Sainte-Adèle, this METRO’s Shared Kitchen aims to support the development of food security services through the creation of two complementary kitchens. The first focuses on food processing to repurpose products nearing the end of their lifecycle and reduce food waste, while the second is dedicated to collective cooking initiatives and community activities.

This new kitchen will enable the preparation of processed foods for food pantries, the production of lunches and breakfasts for schools, and the development of affordable meals. The community kitchen will also provide a functional and welcoming space for hosting culinary workshops and activities that promote social participation.

“With financial support from METRO’s Shared Kitchens, we are grateful to once again be able to offer all our participants the joy of cooking together in a fully accessible space equipped with professional-grade appliances. We proudly highlight the importance of these moments of sharing, laughter, and trust that naturally arise as we prepare delicious meals,” said Benoit St-Vincent, Executive Director of Le Garde-Manger des Pays-d’en-Haut.

METRO is investing nearly $3 million in the first two editions of METRO’s Shared Kitchens, including $300,000 for the installation and operation of the kitchen at Le Garde-Manger des Pays-d’en-Haut.

“We made sure to develop a project that genuinely responds to the needs of the community. We are very proud of this tangible initiative, which allows us to create a lasting legacy in the communities where we operate and brings our purpose to life: Nourishing the health and well being of our communities,” said Marie Claude Bacon, Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications, METRO.

Meeting the needs of the community sector
The sharing of space, human resources, and equipment among organizations, as well as funding to build new professional kitchen facilities dedicated to various types of culinary programs, enables community sector organizations to better meet their needs.

“We know that the lack of resources and infrastructure remains an obstacle to the development of this type of program for our members. The funding will have a major impact in the affected communities, as organizations will now be able to do more for their beneficiaries. The enthusiasm shown by our network demonstrates the need for these types of facilities in Quebec,” said Martin Munger, Executive Director, Food Banks of Quebec.

The third edition of METRO’s Shared Kitchens is already underway. The selected beneficiary organizations will be announced in the coming weeks.
