THE METRO PLUS MARQUIS IN L’ASSOMPTION OPENS ITS DOORS

A MUCH ANTICIPATED SUPERMARKET, ON THE LEADING EDGE OF FOOD TRENDS

Montréal, October 30, 2014-  Following months of work, the new Metro Plus Marquis in l’Assomption, located at 790 Montée St-Sulpice in L’Assomption, opened this morning. Thanks to a 25-million dollar investment for the entire shopping centre, area consumers will be welcomed into a modern store measuring over 45,000 square feet, on the leading edge of food trends. No fewer than 135 employees are there to serve them in order to make their shopping experience even more enjoyable and personal.

“The tastes and needs of Quebecers are getting more and more sophisticated when it comes to food. Our customers will be able to find everything they want here and will also have access to fresh, distinctive and high quality products at good prices. The people of L’Assomption deserve the very best. That's why we have made every effort to give them a store that lives up to their expectations”, said the Marquis family, which owns the Metro Plus Marquis.

Consumers will indeed have access to distinctive products that will satisfy the finest gourmets: a Première Moisson outlet, an incredible selection of artisanal cheeses available at the counter with service from an expert Metro cheesemaker, an on-site bistro, to enjoy the wide variety of dishes prepared in-store, an olive bar with service, sushi prepared on-site, a gift shop, an expert coffee roaster, a room used to age beef, a fish smokehouse, a wide variety of large seafood, fine chocolates, a gluten-free section that includes approximately one hundred products, a large section of home-made beer and several local products.

The Marquis family has been active in the food business for three generations and owns12 Metro stores in Quebec. The L’Assomption store will be run by Jessica Fouani, daughter of Mrs. Maryline Marquis, and by Kévin Marquis, son of Jean-Paul Marquis.

Increased energy performance
The Metro Plus Marquis de L’Assomption has several features that result in superior energy performance. First, the refrigerated and frozen counters are powered by completely “green” refrigeration systems that use CO2 as a refrigerant gas, replacing standard refrigerants whose effect is 2,000 to 4,000 times greater on global warming than CO2. These green systems also provide greater energy performance when compared to standard systems, thanks in part to electronic controls that offer full optimization of their operation. The systems' design also allows waste heat from the compressors to be recovered and used to heat the store.

The standard fluorescent indoor lighting used in the sales area has been replaced by DEL lighting, which provides additional energy savings and a pleasant atmosphere. The refrigerated counters are also equipped with DEL lighting, which also contributes to lower energy consumption.
